Oprah Down Under

'Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.' - Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Down Under: Oprah meets with fans after her arrival at Hamilton Island on the Whitsundays.

Oprah touched down on Australian soil today just after 12.30pm (AEST.) The talk show queen was kept well away from onlookers. Details have been kept secret, with all audience participants asked to sign Confidentiality Agreements. It is rather 'quaint!'

The visit has come at the cost of approximately five million dollars to the Australian taxpayers. It has been handled by Tourism Australia however, it is impossible to determine the benefits to our small, sometimes unknown, nation. It is hoped it will help to keep the wolf from the door with the Global Financial Crisis.

Shaking off any jet lag, the guests, all prize-winners, will feature in the audience during two shows to be taped in Sydney; renamed Oprahville for the occasion. Are we O-verdoing it with the Sydney Opera House to be re-named Oprah House while the Harbour Bridge is to display a big O in her honour?

After settling into Sydney's Intercontinental Hotel the excitable tourists were expected to be split into small groups to be sent on short stays across the country.

Sources of Winfrey's production company Harpo have confirmed that she will make her only official public appearance in Melbourne on Friday.

and as usual the eastern states tried very hard to leave WA right out of it... we found out by accident that she was to come to Australia and that she had no plans to include us... thankfully she has had the grace to extend the whole phenomenon to include us.

we pour massive funds into the economy of this nation and are treated in return like country bumpkins who can be ignored.

I think the only reason the east doesn't sweat the idea of us seceding is they don't think we have the gumption to do it!

but hopefully all Oprahs guests and audiences will have a wonderful holiday and send glowing reports as to our hospitality and beauty of our nation home to America and to the world.

I'd love to get to USA, maybe I can squeeze into one of O's oversized suitcases?

"Surround yourself with only those that will lift you higher," I love that quote. Everything around Oprah gets a bit overdone, but I do like her positive attitude and genuine effort to make a difference to humanity. I, for one, am a fan of hers. Enjoy the hupla down there while she's there.

Starry, thanks for educating me. Really just put this here for future generations of the Radfords.
Cannot believe the hysteria of the Australian public. Judge Judy has a bigger following in the USA.
Love to you my friend xo

Nancy, it is a lovely quote and something we do around these pages.
She certainly has plenty of coverage which is great publicity for Australia. Oh! What a feeling...
